Today's overview: eight stories, one changing world

WHAT HAPPENED

1. Anthropic says roughly 950 Claude agents searched DNA for 21 hours and found an uncharacterized enzyme system, ART, with CRISPR-like repeats. 2. Singapore solo founder Steven Goh sells NinjaPear through subscriptions and usage credits and reports more than $15,000 in gross monthly revenue six months after launch. 3. Payout pairs AI-generated development with creator distribution and its founders report $1,003,227 in annual recurring revenue after nine months. 4. UK jewelry brand Loquet London uses local currencies, prepaid duties and local payments to lift international revenue 82% and orders 138% in one year. 5. The UN convenes its second high-level pandemic-preparedness meeting today, focusing on health rules, the Pandemic Agreement and equitable access to medical products. 6. The UN launches a Global Grids Accelerator to move clean-power projects in Africa and Southeast Asia from connection queues toward investable delivery. 7. The newly described fire amoeba divides at 63 degrees Celsius, raising the known heat ceiling for eukaryotic life from 60 degrees. 8. US 10-year and 30-year Treasury yields reach multiyear highs as oil and renewed rate-hike expectations raise global financing costs.

Claude uses 950 agents to find an uncharacterized enzyme system

WHAT HAPPENED

Anthropic says roughly 950 Claude agents used 210 million tokens over 21 hours, gathered more than 200,000 reverse transcriptases, selected 3,500 new candidate systems and narrowed them to 20. Human laboratory work then validated an uncharacterized system, ART, with CRISPR-like repeats. It may relate to cutting, copying or pasting DNA, but its primary function remains unknown and the result is an early company-team preprint.

NinjaPear's solo founder reports more than $15K in monthly revenue

WHAT HAPPENED

Steven Goh runs NinjaPear as a full-time solo founder, selling B2B company-intelligence and enrichment APIs to sales, recruiting and investment teams through discounted subscription credits and pay-as-you-go top-ups. The product uses LLMs to research the public web in real time; acquisition comes from a 20,000-plus newsletter, SEO on a retained domain and Reddit. He reports more than $15,000 in gross revenue in the prior month and profitability six months after launch. He still owns operations, servers and data quality, while slower live research drives churn; revenue, profit and customer mix are unaudited.

Payout was built with AI in 14 days and reports more than $1M ARR

WHAT HAPPENED

Payout helps US consumers find class-action settlements they may claim and charges $9.99 weekly or $39.99 annually. The team says Claude Code and Cursor produced the first version in 14 days; its early run brought 17,000 users, 1,750 paid subscriptions and $30,017 in revenue. A founder-shared dashboard showed $1,003,227 ARR and $83,602 MRR in May 2026. Growth used an equity partner with a 10-million-plus audience, creator incentives of $1-$2 per thousand views and Apple Search Ads. All revenue is founder-disclosed; retention, churn, acquisition cost and net profit remain unconfirmed.

Loquet grows cross-border revenue 82% in one year

WHAT HAPPENED

UK fine-jewelry brand Loquet London sells bespoke lockets and jewelry worldwide, but supported only three currencies, offered few payment methods and left duties unclear, pushing some shoppers to order by phone. After adding localized currencies and languages, prepaid duties, more than 150 payment methods, free express shipping and simpler returns through Global-e, the case provider reports international conversion up 110%, orders up 138% and revenue up 82% in one year. The US supplies half of international sales, while 65% of Dutch shoppers use Klarna or iDeal. Absolute revenue, fulfillment cost and margin are undisclosed; free shipping and returns remain core cost risks.

The UN convenes its second high-level pandemic-preparedness meeting today

WHAT HAPPENED

Heads of state, ministers, international organizations, researchers, businesses and civil society meet in New York on September 25 to review progress since the 2023 political declaration. The meeting is expected to advance implementation of strengthened International Health Regulations, entry into force of the WHO Pandemic Agreement, negotiation of its pathogen-access and benefit-sharing annex, stronger surveillance, equitable access to vaccines, diagnostics and therapeutics, and sustainable finance. Recent Ebola, mpox, cholera and hantavirus events show that tools have improved while execution and funding gaps remain.

The UN launches a Global Grids Accelerator

WHAT HAPPENED

The UN Secretary-General launched the Global Grids Accelerator during Climate Summit week, initially focusing on Africa and Southeast Asia. Governments identify priority grid projects, while partners combine policy expertise, project preparation, finance and implementation support. UNCTAD says electricity demand is growing more than twice as fast as total energy demand and more than 2,500 gigawatts of renewable and storage projects are waiting in grid queues; by 2030, annual demand growth will equal Japan's electricity use. Milestones extend through COP31 and 2027, but funding, project lists and delivery speed remain undisclosed.

A fire amoeba raises the eukaryotic heat ceiling to 63°C

WHAT HAPPENED

Researchers isolated Incendiamoeba cascadensis from hot springs in California's Lassen Volcanic National Park. It undergoes mitosis at 63°C, above the previous 60°C reproduction record held by a few fungi and red algae; it still moves at 64°C and can recover after brief exposure to 70°C. Its genome is enriched for mechanisms tied to protein homeostasis, genome stability and environmental sensing. It remains a single-celled amoeba, so the record does not imply that humans or other complex organisms can tolerate the same heat, but it expands the known boundary of eukaryotic life.

Treasury yields and oil jointly raise the cost of capital

WHAT HAPPENED

On September 24, the US 10-year Treasury yield reached 5.1497%, its highest since 2007, while the 30-year yield touched 5.4461%, the highest since 2004. Stronger business activity and the fastest rise in input prices in nearly four years led markets to reprice inflation, lifting the implied probability of a rate hike next month from about 53% to 66%. Oil rose roughly 2% as US-Iran talks made little progress. Higher yields increase borrowing costs and valuation discount rates, while oil raises transport and production costs; these are intraday market readings and remain volatile.

ABOUT US

The world is loud, busy, and very good at pulling us off course.

The next leap in AI, negotiations, rocket launches, and quiet decisions that may reshape the future: information arrives like a tide. The splash gets attention, while the changes that matter often move beneath the surface.

Every day at 07:00 Beijing time, Xiazi Says selects the 8 global stories that matter most and pairs them with 1 daily overview. We clarify the facts, explain what lies beneath them, and provide concise context, recommended reading, and bilingual posters made to save and share.

We bring everyday warmth to clear-eyed observations about business, human nature, and a changing world. No borrowed profundity, manufactured anxiety, engineered outrage, or rushed verdicts.

Xiazi looks beneath the surface. Doudoulong speaks plainly and occasionally lands a sharp punchline, always leaving room for complexity. Humorous, never slick. Sharp, never cruel. Optimistic, never cynical. Accessible, never shallow.

Interest opens the door. Balance sets the tone. Insight creates the value. We focus on visible human nature, sound reasoning, and ideas people can actually carry into life.

Xiazi Says: Bold talk, never blind talk.

The world moves like a tide. Do not let the noise carry you away. Eight important stories a day may be enough. Use the rest of your time to work, be with the people you love, step into the sun, and live well.
