Fujimori held a 50.11% narrow lead, while her rival refused to recognize the result
With 99.72% of votes counted in Peru’s presidential runoff, conservative candidate Keiko Fujimori held 50.11% against leftist Roberto Sanchez’s 49.89%. Sanchez alleged fraud, called for a pause in the count and said he would not recognize a Fujimori government, though he had not produced evidence of systemic fraud. He also sought to annul roughly 300,000 overseas votes from 119 consular polling places, a claim rejected by electoral authorities.
