OpenAI delayed the wider GPT-5.6 rollout after a U.S. government request for early access

OpenAI said it would delay a full public launch of GPT-5.6 at the U.S. government request, initially limiting access to a small group of vetted partners and sharing partner details with authorities. A recent executive order created a voluntary framework for AI developers to provide the government with up to 30 days of early access to covered frontier models before release to trusted partners. OpenAI warned that such access and oversight should not become a permanent norm.
