Europe heat expanded southeast as Paris emergency services reported 55 heat-related deaths in one day

Multiple European countries remained under extreme heat alerts. Paris reached 40.9 degrees Celsius, the United Kingdom broke June temperature records for three straight days, the Netherlands issued broad red alerts, and Italy faced the possibility of 40-degree heat over the weekend. Infrastructure strain spread as road surfaces buckled in Germany, rails warped in Sweden, emergency calls rose in Britain, and some hospital equipment was affected.
