China’s coast guard patrolled east of Taiwan, while Taipei called it illegal expansion

China’s coast guard announced a new patrol east of Taiwan, saying it would defend maritime rights in waters it claims. Taiwan objected strongly, said Beijing had no law-enforcement authority there, and sent coast guard vessels to monitor. Reuters said it was the second Chinese coast guard entry near Taiwan’s east in about a month, drawing attention from the US, France, Germany and Britain.
