US Independence Day events were disrupted by heat as temperatures stayed abnormal across many regions
Dangerous heat hit much of the central and eastern United States, cancelling or delaying some Independence Day events in Washington, Philadelphia and elsewhere, while more than 185 million people were under heat alerts and power grids came under pressure. Reuters Climate Monitor showed July 4 global average maximum temperatures about 1 C above normal, with Africa especially hot and Europe’s recent heat linked to human-driven climate change.
