French wildfires forced Tour de France stage three to close to spectators
French officials closed the Tour de France's third stage to the public because a wildfire in southwestern France was still spreading. The fire had burned more than 1,600 hectares about 60 km from the finish, with smoke, hot ground and poor visibility. The route remains unchanged, but the publicity caravan will skip the final 40 km and only essential staff will support riders.
