EU formally questions JD.com's Ceconomy takeover; cross-border deals enter the “explain the subsidy” era

The European Commission sent JD.com formal objections over whether foreign subsidies may have supported its roughly $2.5 billion takeover of German electronics retailer Ceconomy and distorted competition. JD.com may offer remedies; the EU decision is due by October 2.
