Five years into Taliban rule, 21.9 million still need humanitarian aid

The UN estimates 21.9 million people, or 45% of Afghanistan's population, need humanitarian assistance in 2026 as restrictions on women and girls, mass returns, drought, service pressure and funding gaps accumulate.
