OpenAI says it reached its automated research intern goal

OpenAI said on September 6 that its system can complete well-defined tasks that would take a skilled researcher several days under human direction. It targets an automated AI researcher by March 2028, while reporting that some RL training was paused after a safety incident and monitoring was strengthened.
