UNESCO prepares cultural heritage for a strong El Niño

UNESCO's Culture x El Niño initiative prepares heritage sites, museums, archives and cultural practices for the intensifying 2026-2027 event through emergency funding, technical help and scientific information. Droughts, floods, storms, landslides and wildfires are core threats, while Indigenous environmental knowledge will support anticipatory action.
