The UN focuses today on the existential threat of sea-level rise
The UN General Assembly convenes a high-level meeting on sea-level rise on September 24 to strengthen international cooperation, resilience and adaptation. The UN says the global rate in 2014-2023 was more than twice that of 1993-2002. For small islands and low-lying coastal countries, exposure extends beyond disaster damage to maritime boundaries, nationality, culture and statehood. The central test is whether a political declaration becomes funded, executable protection.
