WHO broadens safe and effective contraceptive choices
WHO's new guideline supports taking combined oral contraceptives for up to six months or continuously for a year, using implants for up to five years, and adding mifepristone within five days as an emergency option. It also rejects some methods from national programs where evidence is insufficient. About 164 million women who want to delay or avoid pregnancy use no contraception. WHO also issued its first target product profile for male methods and says reversible products may reach the market in 5-10 years.
