The largest human prefrontal gene-expression atlas is released
The PsychAD program published a set of open studies in Nature and related journals analyzing more than 6.3 million gene-expression profiles from brain tissue donated by 1,494 deceased people, creating the largest-known single-cell atlas of the human prefrontal cortex. Samples span infants to centenarians, allowing researchers to compare expression changes across life stages, cell types and brain regions and to build resources on cellular vulnerability and genetic regulation linked to Alzheimer's and multiple neuropsychiatric disorders. The atlas can help prioritize genes, cell types and mechanisms for further study, but it is based on donated tissue and association analyses. It is not a diagnostic tool and does not show that any candidate target will become a treatment.
