World Tourism Day focuses on AI redesigning tourism
World Tourism Day on September 27 uses the 2026 theme 'Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism,' with El Salvador hosting the official celebration. The UN Secretary-General says AI is changing destination choice, operations and travel-experience design, with the potential to strengthen small businesses and services. Without governance, however, it can funnel visitors and value toward the same destinations and platforms. The message calls for tourism workers, local communities and emerging destinations to shape the technology, backed by digital skills and wider access. This is an agenda-setting observance, not evidence that revenue, jobs or sustainability outcomes have already improved. Follow-through should be measured through training, distribution, local procurement and community income.
