Kenyan health authorities confirmed the country's second Bundibugyo Ebola case on October 15. The 39-year-old man is a close relative of Kenya's first case, who travelled from the Democratic Republic of the Congo through Uganda to Nairobi and died after testing positive on October 5. The second patient had already been identified as a contact and quarantined, allowing testing and treatment soon after symptoms appeared. Officials said roughly 128 contacts had been identified, 108 were in quarantine and five were outside Kenya with the relevant countries notified. The two cases have a clear epidemiological link and there was no evidence of community spread at the time of the update. Ebola is not airborne; it spreads through direct contact with blood or body fluids, making tracing, isolation, clinical infection control and cross-border coordination the core defences.

XIAZI'S TAKE · COMMENTARY

The critical fact in the second case is that it was found inside a known contact chain and quarantine system.

Doudoulong, in plain words

No community spread is not zero risk; the full contact-monitoring period still matters.
