Ai2 opens a trillion-scale MoE training stack

WHAT HAPPENED

Ai2 released Olmo-core 3 on October 1, a redesigned open training system for mixture-of-experts models. In one benchmark, expanding from eight to 128 experts while activating only four per token grew total capacity from 4.6B to 47B parameters with less than a 5% throughput decline. On eight NVIDIA B300 GPUs, the new stack processed 52,000 tokens per second per GPU for a 47B MoE, about 2.7 times the prior implementation. Ai2 also demonstrated a 1.2-trillion-parameter systems benchmark across 512 GPUs, while stressing that it measured infrastructure performance, not the quality of a fully trained model. Code, a technical report and an interactive walkthrough are open for inspection and adaptation.

HabitKit's solo app disclosed about $15.1K monthly revenue

WHAT HAPPENED

Developer Sebastian Röhl disclosed in a 2024 Indie Hackers interview that HabitKit generated about $7,800 in monthly recurring revenue plus roughly $7,300 a month in lifetime purchases, or around $15,100 combined; a New Year peak exceeded $33,000 in one month. The product serves people who want a visual grid for habit tracking. Core features are free, while Pro sells monthly, annual and lifetime access. About 98% of new users arrived directly through the App Store or Google Play, supported by keyword optimization and build-in-public content. A single Flutter codebase delivers iOS and Android, while offline storage removes the need for a backend. The figures are founder-disclosed from 2024, not audited current profit, and omit refunds, store fees, taxes and take-home income.

Sunflower reaches $1M ARR in ten months

WHAT HAPPENED

Sunflower is a sobriety-support app whose founder, Koby Conrad, said in an April 2026 Superwall interview that it reached $1 million ARR and 10,000 paying subscribers in ten months. AI powers an always-available support companion that handled about four million messages in a year, while the simplest sobriety timer remained the feature users valued most. Monetization comes from subscriptions. A trial-reminder experiment reportedly lifted revenue 48% and annual subscriptions 70%; defaulting to annual and lowering price for price-sensitive users also improved total revenue. Acquisition centered on hiring the category's leading sobriety influencer as an employee, with that relationship driving 50,000-100,000 link clicks a month. The figures are founder-disclosed and do not include gross margin, inference cost, refunds, cohort retention or net profit.

Anker's global DTC website revenue once grew 112% year over year

WHAT HAPPENED

A Shopify case says Anker migrated sixteen sites for four major consumer-electronics brands in three months, then expanded to more than fifty global online stores across over 140 countries and regions. Markets receive different storefronts, currencies, checkout configurations and payment methods including Shop Pay, PayPal, Amazon Pay and Google Pay. The case reports 112% year-over-year website revenue growth in the first half of 2023, 70% annual website revenue growth for three consecutive years, a payment success rate above 90%, and increases in average order value and gross margin. The mechanism moves brand demand from third-party marketplaces into owned DTC while local checkout reduces payment failure and preserves customer relationships. The figures are historical vendor-reported results and omit market-level advertising, duties, logistics, returns, platform cost and current net profit.

Reddit will close RSS and public API access

WHAT HAPPENED

Reddit says RSS support will end on November 13, 2026, while the public Data API closes in stages: new applications end October 31, unregistered or unengaged access begins losing service January 12, 2027, and remaining public access ends in March 2027. The company cites large-scale scraping and automated abuse and requires third-party apps and bots to move to its Developer Platform. More than 14,000 apps and bots have registered. Reddit is offering a $1 million migration program plus technical support and hosting for qualifying projects. Some moderation workflows have alternatives, but RSS subscriptions to communities a user does not moderate will not. The change reduces unlicensed collection surfaces while tightening portability, archiving and room for independent clients.

G20 agrees to oppose coercive weaponization of food trade

WHAT HAPPENED

At the G20 Trade Ministerial in Milwaukee, ministers reached consensus on an outcome document titled 'G20 Statement on the Weaponization of Food through Coercive Trade Actions' and expressed intent to continue cooperation. India's official account stressed a distinction between temporary, transparent measures used to preserve domestic food availability and actions that use food, agricultural products or inputs as instruments of pressure. Discussion also covered the effect of food, fuel and fertilizer crises on the Global South and existing exemptions for World Food Programme purchases from export restrictions. The consensus creates shared political language, but the current disclosure does not specify a uniform legal definition, dispute process, monitoring metric or binding enforcement path. It is therefore not yet an operative trade ban.

NSA sets 2027 and 2030 quantum-resistance milestones

WHAT HAPPENED

The US National Security Agency announced new post-quantum cryptography migration measures on October 1. Under national-security-systems policy, all new commercial NSS must support quantum-resistant algorithms from 2027, while legacy systems that cannot migrate are to be phased out by 2030. NSA frames the risk as both 'harvest now, decrypt later' and 'trust now, exploit later,' covering long-lived sensitive data, authentication and critical systems. The operating work is broader than swapping algorithms: inventory cryptographic assets, verify hardware and protocol upgrade paths, update supplier requirements, design hybrid migration and sequence retirements. The date when quantum machines can break today's public-key systems remains uncertain, but the exposure window for long-lived data has already started.

Crew-13 launches four astronauts toward the station

WHAT HAPPENED

SpaceX Crew-13 lifted off from Florida at 11:10 a.m. Eastern on October 1 aboard a Dragon spacecraft carrying NASA astronauts Jessica Watkins and Luke Delaney, Canadian Space Agency astronaut Joshua Kutryk, and Roscosmos cosmonaut Sergey Teteryatnikov. The four are set to spend approximately six months aboard the International Space Station. Canada's official release says Kutryk will support studies on mental health, bone density, cardiorespiratory health, orientation perception, anemia and ocular rigidity, and test a new physical-training protocol. The crew will also handle station maintenance, repairs, robotics operations and potential spacewalk support. Launch success completes the transport's first stage, not the mission; docking, operational safety and scientific delivery must still be verified over the coming months.

ABOUT US

The world is loud, busy, and very good at pulling us off course.

The next leap in AI, negotiations, rocket launches, and quiet decisions that may reshape the future: information arrives like a tide. The splash gets attention, while the changes that matter often move beneath the surface.

Every day at 07:00 Beijing time, Xiazi Says selects the 8 global stories that matter most and pairs them with 1 daily overview. We clarify the facts, explain what lies beneath them, and provide concise context, recommended reading, and bilingual posters made to save and share.

We bring everyday warmth to clear-eyed observations about business, human nature, and a changing world. No borrowed profundity, manufactured anxiety, engineered outrage, or rushed verdicts.

Xiazi looks beneath the surface. Doudoulong speaks plainly and occasionally lands a sharp punchline, always leaving room for complexity. Humorous, never slick. Sharp, never cruel. Optimistic, never cynical. Accessible, never shallow.

Interest opens the door. Balance sets the tone. Insight creates the value. We focus on visible human nature, sound reasoning, and ideas people can actually carry into life.

Xiazi Says: Bold talk, never blind talk.

The world moves like a tide. Do not let the noise carry you away. Eight important stories a day may be enough. Use the rest of your time to work, be with the people you love, step into the sun, and live well.
