Google lets apps integrate once with Search and Gemini

Google opened a preview of Connected Apps Platform so developers can bring one capability to both Google Search and the Gemini app instead of building separate integrations. Cloud services can expose an MCP server, while Android apps use AppFunctions APIs; developers register, test and submit through Connected Console. New partners include Adobe, Calm and Peloton, allowing users to call outside services from conversational and search tasks. The opportunity is to connect high-intent discovery with application actions, but this is still a preview. Review rules, least-privilege permissions, identity mapping, error recovery, call cost and whether users understand where their data goes all require real deployment evidence. Google disclosed no developer revenue, conversion or large-scale reliability figures, so this is a distribution and tooling shift, not proof that every connected app will grow.

Solo-run notis.ai verifies $13,243 MRR

Swiss founder Flo runs bootstrapped notis.ai alone for solo founders and operators. The AI assistant lives in WhatsApp: users send voice notes, messages, emails or screenshots, and it organizes notes and tasks while producing meeting minutes, CRM updates, blog posts and newsletter drafts. TrustMRR verifies $241,397 lifetime revenue, $13,243 MRR, $9,809 over the last 30 days and 436 active subscriptions through Stripe; the listing reports about 17,000 users. A free tier feeds Pro, Pro+ and ULTRA plans priced at annual-billing equivalents of $13, $39 and $99 per month. Acquisition spans X, YouTube, search and social ads, cold outreach, affiliates, podcasts, word of mouth and referrals. Digital delivery lets one operator cover many workflows. Constraints include channel complexity, privacy around messages and customer data, platform policy, model and messaging cost, automation errors and support load. TrustMRR shows neither margin nor retention, and MRR alone does not prove every channel scales profitably.

Setup AI chart analysis verifies $3,245 MRR

Setup AI applies image understanding and technical analysis to mobile trading education. A user uploads a forex, gold, crypto or stock chart, and the app returns a trend, key zones, entry, stop-loss and take-profit with a plain-language explanation for beginner and intermediate retail traders. TrustMRR verifies $3,379 lifetime revenue, $3,245 MRR, $2,496 over the last 30 days and 124 active subscriptions through RevenueCat. US App Store pricing is $8.99 weekly or $17.99 monthly, with a trial on the weekly plan. Acquisition relies on App Store optimization, Threads, TikTok, Instagram and YouTube, while English, Russian and Ukrainian expand the market. Payment proves willingness to buy immediate interpretation, but the sample remains early. A model can misread a chart, technical analysis is not a forecast guarantee, a high weekly price can drive refunds and churn, and market-data licensing, regulation, speculative losses and disclosures define the commercial boundary.

Hobonichi grows global online revenue 70% in four months

Japan's Hobonichi sells planners, covers and stationery to consumers worldwide. In 2023 it moved overseas orders onto Global-e, displaying local currency by destination, supporting more than 150 global and local payment methods, and handling or pre-collecting duties and sales taxes at checkout so an international order feels closer to a domestic purchase. Global-e's latest case reports 70% year-on-year growth in worldwide online revenue within four months. The profit mechanism starts with overseas demand created by brand content and the planner community, then removes localized checkout abandonment rather than relying only on cheap traffic. The vendor page discloses no absolute GMV, order count, margin, ad spend or market mix, and the 70% result may reflect launch season and the comparison base. Costs and risks include highly seasonal planner inventory, international freight, foreign exchange, duties, returns, payment fraud and dependence on a merchant of record. Revenue growth does not automatically mean equal profit growth.

Fifty-three European countries adopt a healthy-ageing strategy

All 53 Member States in the WHO European Region unanimously adopted the 'Ageing is living' strategy, responding to longer lives that do not always bring equally longer healthy lives. WHO projects that people over 65 will reach 27% of the Region by 2050. Women live longer but spend 81.3% of life in good health, below men's 83.5%. The strategy calls for prevention across the life course, care closer to home and community, support for family carers, action against ageism, and planning through country profiles and a Healthy Ageing Intelligence Dashboard. Implementation starts now, while the accompanying AI-in-health roadmap receives a midterm report in 2029. Adoption is not delivery: national budgets, long-term-care staffing, rural gaps, data quality and welfare systems differ. Real progress depends on funded primary services and measurable gains in functional health.

Tunable antigen density improves a cancer vaccine in mice

An MIT team repurposed the harmless-to-humans M13 bacteriophage as a personalized cancer-vaccine carrier. The phage forms a long nanofiber; by changing charge and expression speed in its pVIII coat protein, researchers tuned tumor-antigen density from 6% to 70%. Its single-stranded DNA also activates TLR9, putting antigen display and adjuvant activity in one particle. In mice, a 35% density vaccine was taken up more readily by dendritic cells than a 6% version, generated more targeted T cells, and reduced formation of melanoma expressing a model antigen. Swapping in the colon-cancer neoantigen ADPGK also reduced colon-tumor formation. The platform could exchange antigens for an individual tumor, but the evidence is still a preventive mouse model, not a human treatment result. Efficacy against established tumors, loading of diverse antigens, manufacturing consistency, toxicity, immune escape and clinical trials remain unproven.

490,319 whole genomes improve rare-variant imputation

Researchers built a genotype-imputation reference panel from 490,319 UK Biobank whole genomes and released EagleImp plus its cloud implementation, EagleImp-RAP. Imputation uses a reference population to infer variants not directly measured in a study sample, so panel scale and diversity affect disease-association discovery. Compared with TOPMed r3, which contains 133,597 people, the new panel lowered phasing switch error in every global superpopulation except admixed American populations and in 25 of 26 1000 Genomes subpopulations. For variants down to 0.01% minor-allele frequency, mean absolute error improved in four of five superpopulations and 12 subpopulations. Reimputing European COVID-19 genome-wide association datasets added significant loci and sharpened fine-mapping. UK Biobank still does not represent the world, performance was not best for every American population, and privacy, ancestry bias and replication in outside cohorts remain constraints.

A deep-sea mollusc reveals a 'dragon ball' symbiotic organelle

Researchers found a structure specialized for housing chemosynthetic bacteria in the aplacophoran mollusc Chaetoderma shenloong, which lives in anoxic deep-sea cold-seep sediment. The roughly 12-micrometre multilayered spheres fill an enlarged, reticulated digestive gland and farm sulfur-oxidizing bacteria; the host has lost most of its conventional gut. The team named the structure dracosphera, inspired by Dragon Ball. Genomic and spatial-transcriptomic evidence indicates that the bacteria are microaerobic while the host lives tens of centimetres below the seabed in oxygen-free sediment. Multiple membrane layers may restrict oxygen diffusion and create a controlled microenvironment for the symbionts. The paper describes a previously unknown animal organelle dedicated to chemosynthesis, suggesting how larger animals can integrate microbial metabolism in dark, hypoxic habitats. Whether it meets every definition of an organelle, how it develops and is inherited, and how the host controls bacterial abundance need study in more species and living specimens.

ABOUT US

The world is loud, busy, and very good at pulling us off course.

A daily look beyond your filter bubble. Explore different fields and perspectives, not just the views you already know. Our global briefing and original sources offer another angle on the world; the judgment remains yours.

The next leap in AI, negotiations, rocket launches, and quiet decisions that may reshape the future: information arrives like a tide. The splash gets attention, while the changes that matter often move beneath the surface.

Every day at 07:00 Beijing time, Xiazi Says selects the 8 global stories that matter most and pairs them with 1 daily overview. We clarify the facts, explain what lies beneath them, and provide concise context, recommended reading, and bilingual posters made to save and share.

We bring everyday warmth to clear-eyed observations about business, human nature, and a changing world. No borrowed profundity, manufactured anxiety, engineered outrage, or rushed verdicts.

Xiazi looks beneath the surface. Doudoulong speaks plainly and occasionally lands a sharp punchline, always leaving room for complexity. Humorous, never slick. Sharp, never cruel. Optimistic, never cynical. Accessible, never shallow.

Interest opens the door. Balance sets the tone. Insight creates the value. We focus on visible human nature, sound reasoning, and ideas people can actually carry into life.

Xiazi Says: Bold talk, never blind talk.

The world moves like a tide. Do not let the noise carry you away. Eight important stories a day may be enough. Use the rest of your time to work, be with the people you love, step into the sun, and live well.
